The Future4Alliances project, coordinated by Campus France, started in March 2025. Co-funded by the European Union (EU), the central idea of this three-year programme is to support the structuring phase of the 65 European universities alliances, by creating a favourable environment for the development of their activities, and by enhancing the coherence of national and regional funding.
Now, Future4Alliances was officially presented with a 2-days Kick-Off Meeting in Paris at the headquarters of Campus France. The Vice-Rector for Internationalization Policy of the University of Barcelona, Raúl Ramos, represented CHARM-EU at the event, which includes nine universities from different states among its partners.
Future4Alliances aims, among others, to create a favourable environment for European universities alliances in terms of legislation, its application and technical support and to enhance the coherence of national/regional funding for Alliances, in addition to Erasmus+ funding and funding from other European programmes. Three priority themes have been identified by the consortium and can be summarised as: sustainability of funding; joint educational programmes and activities and international dimension and hosting measures.
In addition to exploring how the sustainability of the initiative can be guaranteed in terms of funding, Future4Alliances will also study how to promote joint educational programs and the international dimension of alliances of European universities, and to explore synergies with the FOREU4ALL community of practice where CHARM-EU also actively participates.
The Vice-Rector for Internationalization Policy of the University of Barcelona, Raúl Ramos, who have participated as representative of CHARM-EU at the event, highlighted that “the project will facilitate the necessary space for dialogue between ministries, quality agencies and universities in order to overcome the barriers that limit the transformative impact that alliances should have on the European university system”.
