Applications for the fourth edition of the 18-month Master's programme in Global Challenges for Sustainability are open until February 12th. Starting in September 2024, CHARM-EU master students will have a unique opportunity to address the pressing need for sustainability in an international, transdisciplinary and challenge-based environment. Those interested can submit their applications and join this community committed to creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

If you are interested in applying to the Master's programme but you do not have time to prepare your application, we will reopen a second application period from the 4th to the 20th March.

Divided between three consecutive phases, the 90-ECTS Master’s programme comprises a preparatory phase, a flexible phase and a capstone phase. The preparatory phase includes modules on sustainability, social innovation and transdisciplinary research; the flexible phase consists of transdisciplinary modules related to water, food or life and health; and the capstone phase involves analysing a sustainability challenge in collaboration with external stakeholders.

UB Hosts the 2024 Grand Finale of the Second Edition of CHARM-EU Master's Programme

The University of Barcelona has been the scene of the CHARM-EU Master's programme Grand Finale 2024, a unique opportunity where students from the second edition of the Master's Programme in Global Challenges for Sustainability presented their proposals to address the challenges on their chosen topic.

During this event, students had the chance to share their proposals to address specific challenges suggested by different entities and companies, and highlighted their vision and dedication in the search for innovative solutions. Topics such as environmental monitoring for the reconciliation between humanity and the planet, the role of technology in improving the water-energy-food nexus in Albania, or the promotion of a sustainable circular economy in the peri-urban agricultural system of the Baix Llobregat Agrarian Park have been some of these proposals.

The event finalised with an inspiring and compelling speech given by the first edition alumni of the Master’s programme Itziar Salazar. She recalled the nostalgia she felt when thinking about her period as CHARM-EU student, the importance of being surrounded by like-minded people, and the successful careers her classmates where currently pursuing. She finished by reminding them what sustainability really is about.

"Sustainability is not just a concept to be studied, but a way of life to be embraced. It requires a commitment to continuous learning, a willingness to challenge the status quo and the courage to advocate for meaningful change”
